Y Happenings May 2022 Newsletter

April showers bring May flowers. Most people are familiar with this saying. The month of May is filled with the sounds of birds, the smell of fresh flowers, and summer breezes from time to time. The month marks the end of spring and the beginning of summer. There is growing anticipation for backyard barbecue get-togethers, outdoor activities, and pool parties. School-age children are anticipating the last day of school for summer vacation and parents planning for family get outings after being inside during the cold winter months.

The YMCA has so many opportunities for all ages this summer.  Those school-age kids, who will be bored after the first two weeks with nothing to do, can come to the YMCA Day Camp.  We offer a full day of fun-filled activities, swimming, and field trips.  I won’t mention the two other groups that have a special day coming this May.

Mother’s Day is a special time to show Mom you care.  Show her you care about her physical and mental health; tell her you to care with a YMCA Gift Card that she can use to purchase a membership, Y apparel, or a pass to test out a few classes.   I am sure we will have something she will love.

Memorial Day commemorates the U.S. Soldiers who died in military service. It is important to honor those who served and gave the greatest sacrifice for our freedom.  I also think it is important for us to show our appreciation to those who have served and are still with us but may feel alone and have nowhere to turn.  The Meadville YMCA has a Veterans Program and can help.  Give your veteran a gift of a place to go, bring them to the YMCA, and let us show them how we can help.

I hope that you all have the opportunity to get outside as the weather gets warmer and enjoy your time as a family.

Best Wishes,
Tina Carter

The YMCA is just a starting line.
For the true self blooms
Only when we find our purpose.
What makes us tick below the surface.

Y is the before-work hustle
An after-school home
A section of my block
A corner to call my own

With my Y
I stand strong seen and supported all along.
It’s a million faces in a mirror and everyone, belongs.

JA BizTown Volunteer Blurb:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  On May 20, June 6, and June 7 from 9am-2:30 pm, up to 60 volunteers are needed when students from Conneaut and Central Crawford School Districts will attend JA BizTown® outside Bridgeville, PA.  JA BizTown® is a fully interactive town that simulates the day-to-day functions of thriving communities. The program helps students connect what they learn in school with the real world.  The time commitment is minimal compared to the significant impact you make. The day includes volunteer training and program simulation.
