Active Older Adult & SilverSneakers® Fitness Program

The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is an innovative health, exercise and wellness program helping older adults live healthy, active lifestyles. Your SilverSneakers fitness membership includes:
• Access to our basic amenities such as our heated pool with adult-only hours, private locker rooms, private showers, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, lounge area with free coffee all day. • SilverSneakers classes and other classes we offer such as yoga, pilates, active adult, etc. • Most important, your membership is available to you at little or no cost through your health plan.
Regular participation in SilverSneakers can help you build muscular strength, improve joint mobility and increase cardiovascular endurance, leading to improved health and greater independence.
SilverSneakers also provides opportunities to: • expand your social network and strengthen friendships • increase your mental sharpness • take part in social activities and wellness seminars More than 1 million members nationwide already enjoy SilverSneakers. SilverSneakers® Fitness Program CLASS DESCRIPTIONS PLEASE Bring a bottle of water to every SilverSneakers® class
SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength & Range of Movement Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. *This is a CHAIR-ASSISTED class.
SilverSplash® Activate your aqua urge for variety! SilverSplash offers lots of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination. *This is a KICKBOARD-ASSISTED class.
CardioCircuit® Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises.
**Any member of the Meadville Family YMCA may attend any of the SilverSneakers classes – even if you are not enrolled in the SilverSneakers Fitness Program. We encourage ALL AGE GROUPS to check us out! Here are some simple recommendations for purchasing APPROPRIATE SHOES for woking out!
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Monthly Birthday Celebrations: This event is generally held on the last Friday of the month in the YMCA gym. If you have a birthday this month, please speak to one of the SilverSneakers Instructors about attending the party. There’ll be cake, fun, and other friends celebrating their own birthdays that day!
